With sadness, we report that longtime WFNB member, Anne Leslie, of Burtt’s Corner, passed away on January 26, 2026, after a long illness. She was 75.

Born in 1950 to Ukrainian parents, Anne enjoyed a long and varied career in journalism and non-profit work. Among other positions, she wrote for the Moncton Times and Transcript, and was a publisher of a local community paper. I (Rhonda Herrington Bulmer) met Anne when she hired me for my first “real” job in communications when she was Assistant Executive Vice-President at the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce (GMCC). Anne loved creating and writing policy in non-profit situations. She was a co-founder of the Multicultural Association of the Greater Moncton Area (MAGMA) and also worked for Literacy NB.  At the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, she acted as Development Associate for their National Capital Campaign in 2016-17.

On a personal level, I found Anne to be a deep thinker, and a very good writer. Her family history, Ukrainian cultural heritage and lineage were important to her, and these interests informed the kind of topics she focused on, and how she wrote about different subjects. While I worked at the GMCC, I was lucky enough to be invited to her house when Anne’s mother was serving handmade perogies – something I’d never eaten before, and on a different occasion, Anne taught us how to make Ukrainian Easter eggs.  Growing up on the Miramichi, I had not been exposed to many other cultures, and as a very young woman, this was a marvelous experience. Anne delighted in sharing these experiences with other people, and proved that the world around us was better for it.

My wise, generous and thoughtful friend Anne is survived by her husband, Ed, her son Nik, her daughter Lorissa (husband Ming), as well as her grandchildren: Diana and Liam.

A celebration of life will take place in early May. Gifts to any animal welfare centre in her name are appreciated.
