Biography
Inter-disciplinary writer and artist Valerie LeBlanc has presented nationally and internationally. She has participated in numerous residencies and readings around the globe. LeBlanc has an expanded vision and practice of writing that includes videopoetry (since 1985), essays, writing for performance, plays and co-writing. Since 1997, she has been working under the Artist Imprint publication title: Éditions Basic Bruegel Editions [eBBe].

Homecoming, LeBlanc’s first video was collected and shown during the opening of the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, ON, in 1988. In 2005, she created the MediaPackBoard (MPB) portable screening/performance apparatus and used the device as an impetus for events involving art centers and public audiences/participators. This 10-year experiment was documented in MPB-X: Critical Discourse Surrounding Ideas of Portability in Art and Art Dissemination, 2014. Recent co-written publications include: Fundy, [eBBe], 2022, Moncton, NB; Videopoetry/Videopoésie, Small Walker Press, St-Catharine’s, Ontario, 2020 and Everglades, Prise de parole, 2018. (co-written with Daniel H. Dugas) LeBlanc launched her Perspectives poetry collection in 2020 through [eBBe] in Moncton, NB.

In the ‘Contemporary Pioneers’ section of her book The Poetics of Poetry Film, Intellect Books, 2021, author Sarah Tremlett states [… ] ‘I see how all the digital videopoems that have sprung up over twenty years later owe a huge debt to LeBlanc and Dugas.’ p 168-170.

Currently based in Moncton, LeBlanc is working on a series of videopoems and chapbooks based on her early education through film in Churchill, Manitoba.
