Biography
I am a life-long reader and believe strongly in literacy for everyone. I have been a freelance writer for almost 30 years and have articles published in Canada, the United States, the UK and Ireland. My genre is creative non-fiction and I specialize in history, business, technical, cultural, agriculture, photojournalism and travel. I am the author two books Shipwrecks Off the East Coast and New Brunswick: Facts, Firsts & Innovations – both dealing with the history of Atlantic Canada and New Brunswick. I am also the co-author of two photography related guide books – Scenic St. Martins: Jewel of the Bay of Fundy and A Pictorial Walk Through Historic Saint John: Canada’s Oldest City. I am an avid photographer and my photography often accompanies my articles and stories. My photography has been published in books, magazines, newspapers, calendars, note cards and post cards.

I love to talk to others about writing and present workshops on memoir writing and instructing people on how to find their voice through writing.

I was the President of the South West New Brunswick Chapter of the Professional Writers’ Association of Canada and currently have previously served on the Board of Directors for the Writers’ Federation of New Brunswick.

WISP What I Offer
Book Reading/Discussion: I offer a reading from either Shipwrecks Off the East Coast or New Brunswick: Facts, Firsts & Innovations. I discuss the importance of knowing about local and regional history – about being proud of where we come from and the important contributions made by our ancestors. I hope this discussion will inspire teens to discover the importance of history and to be proud Atlantic Canadians.

Creative Writing Workshops: I work with students to help them find a way to express themselves through creative writing exercises. Career Discussion: I’m open to discussing with older students the writing life – what it is like to work as a freelance writer. How to get started, where to find work, and pitfalls to watch out for.
