Biography
Brigitte Rivers is a writer, artist and educator. Her first book, children’s novel ‘Kit and the Calico Cat’, was published by Chapel Street Kids, an imprint of Chapel Street Editions, under the pen name Brigitte Marsden. This adventure story is a uniquely collaborative project: Brigitte created the cover art for the book, and one of her young art students provided the illustrations. Brigitte lives in western New Brunswick, Canada. She is currently working on writing and other creative projects (including a sequel to Kit and the Calico Cat). When she isn’t doing that, you’ll probably find her hiking or teaching yoga. Early signs of a writing career were not promising, despite the seed having been planted in junior high school English class. Brigitte studied art and design, later retraining as a classroom teacher. She snuck up on writing via graphic design and worked in marketing, publishing and web communications before moving to Canada from the UK. The seed finally germinated and got its chance to grow when she branched out into freelance writing and photography in 2006. An enthusiastic advocate of the Writers’ Federation of New Brunswick (WFNB), Brigitte is grateful for WFNB’s support and nourishment in her career as a writer. She is a local representative for the Writers’ Federation of New Brunswick in the Upper Saint John River Valley, a member of the New Brunswick Writers in Schools Program (WiSP) and a member of the New Brunswick Artists in Residency in Schools program. Brigitte has been a volunteer in the Early Literacy Friends (ELF) program, a director on the board of the Multicultural Association of Carleton County (MACC), a founder of Beyond Words Writers’ Group, and a member of Woodstock First Nation’s beading group. Through Creative Flow, the business she established in 2014, she teaches yoga, mindfulness, art and writing and offers workshops and retreats, as well as continuing to freelance.
