Biography
Don Kelly is a retired science teacher, outdoor education co-ordinator, science consultant and elementary teacher. He is an amateur astronomer, a founding member of the Dr. William Brydone Jack Astronomy Club in Fredericton, New Brunswick and a member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC). He teaches astronomy at the University of New Brunswick through the college of Extended Learning. His 2 books – Mary Lou’s New Telescope and Le Nouveau Telescope de Chloe – were selected by Canadian astronaut Dr. Robert Thirsk as part of his personal library during his 6 months aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Don has studied writing for children by means of the Maritime Writers’ Workshop via Sheree Fitch. His latest book, Deer Island Mystery, is a 2019 Canadian Hackmatack Award finalist in the English fiction category. It was chosen as an Atlantic book selection in 2019’s Halifax Chronicle Herald’s Summer Reads contest. His books and school visits explore numerous science themes, hands-on science activities and discrepant science events (science magic)

Don is available to speak to students about his writing through the Writers’ Federation of New Brunswick’s Writers in the Schools program. He can be contacted at the email address provided or by phone at 1-506-357-8397. He is a member of WFNB, WISP, RASC-NB, and Science East, Inc.
