Brent Sherrard
Background
Brent Sherrard is the author of high-interest, low vocabulary Young Adult novels for reluctant readers. His first novel, Wasted, was released to critical acclain for its gritty and realistic portrayal of a teen-aged addict, offering insights into substance abuse and recovery. Sherrard’s presentations may (on request) include grade-appropriate discussions on what it was like to grow up in a home and community ravaged by alcohol and substance abuse.
Brent’s latest publication, Fight Back, is an engaging story of a youth who finds hope just when he is at the lowest place in his life. This story recently received a Kirkus review.

What I Offer
Presentation and reading: Up to 3 presentations per day for up to 60 students per presentation.
If requested, Brent will present a real-life insight into substance abuse and recovery, describing the realities of growing up in a home and community where alcohol and drug abuse were a prevailing element of life.
Brent’s stories lend themselves to interactive talks of life choices, bullying, peer pressure and dealing with hardships.
Other presentation segments include talk of the writing process and finding personal paths to success.
Brent ends with a short reading followed by a question and answer session. Student participation is encouraged throughout.
Writing workshops: Half to full day workshops for up to 15 students, maximum 3 grade span.
