Jaroslaw (Jerry) Iwanus
My wife, Michele, and I are proud to live dans le Coeur de l’Acadie, in the bustling fishing village of Pointe-Sapin, Kent County, on the Northumberland coast. French is not the first language for either of us (it is actually my third, as I read, speak, and write Ukrainian), but we are proud to live at least part of our lives in the language of the people who have called the Maritimes home since the early 17th century.
I am an alumnus of the University of Alberta, having obtained my BA (Special) there in 1983, followed by my MA in history in 1986. I have also had the opportunity to serve that institution in several capacities over the years, including as a member of the University Senate and now in helping establish an East Coast chapter of the Alumni Association.
I have done technical and expository writing for years, but am new to creative writing through poetry, having embraced it because of the deep love and appreciation I have for my adopted NB home. I am still in the workforce in an unrelated professional field but intend to continue cultivating this calling both during my remaining working years and even more so in retirement. I have a couple of minor academic publications, but no published works of poetry (or a website) yet. All in good time.
