Since 2013, it has been my great privilege to work with hundreds of children and youth facilitating creative writing workshops as part of WFNB’s Writers in the Schools Program.
I am an author, theatre artist and arts educator with more than 25 years of professional experience. As a theatre artist, I have toured throughout North America over the past several decades. My arts education credits include work with Learning Through the Arts, World Vision, the Storytellers School of Toronto and as the Artistic Director of KPH Theatre Productions.
My husband (B. Glenn Copeland) and I have completed seven Artist-in-Residencies* in New Brunswick schools since 2012. I was honoured to serve as Writer-in-Residence* for James M. Hill High School in 2015. (*Funding support through the NB Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture.)
In February 2016 I served as faculty at the San Miguel Writers Conference (San Miguel de Allende, Mexico), and am looking forward to being part of the Knowlton Literary Festival in Knowlton, Quebec in Oct. 2016.
Email me or call 506.624-3966.
My short stories, personal essays and poems have been published in The Furious Gazelle, Circa – A Journal of Historical Fiction, Forge Journal, and Bread ‘n Molasses, among others. I won the 2014 Writer’s Federation of New Brunswick Y.A. Fiction Award (1st prize) for an excerpt from my novel, Traeh Gnul – Miranda’s Journey from the Great Forest. My novella JAZZ won the 2014 Ken Klonsky Novella Prize and was shortlisted for the 2015 ReLit Award. It is available through Amazon and Quattro Books / Toronto.
Note: To support students who are LGBTQ, several NB high schools have purchased copies of JAZZ for their libraries.
What I Offer
I love working with my teacher collaborators to find ways of supporting young writers to find their own unique voice. I offer workshops in poetry, creative writing, playwriting and spoken word. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about my programs. I’d love to visit your school in the 2016/17 school year.
