Retired Nurse – recently was inducted into the Order of New Brunswick –following 40+ years of Health Care and Administration in the Health Field –followed by years of volunteer work with the Bathurst Heritage Trust Commission Inc. (1988 to today) having opened the first Bathurst Heritage Museum; The Nepisiguit Centennial Cultural Centre and Archives and Genealogy Department..Have published many articles as long ago as 1975 when the Magazine “Hands” was in circulation.
I hold a diploma from the Institute of Children’s Literature in Connecticut, USA and have published several stories in “Bread’n’Molasses’ out of the Mighty Community of the Miramichi. I am also an avid painter and have ventured in oils, acrylics and watercolors.
My recent writings include historical collections and hope to complete the historical memories of West Bathurst from when I was a child known as the “Village’. I would also like to attempt to write the Story of the life of my Grandmother Elizabeth Fournier Chamberlain who in 1922 signed her name with a ‘hyphen’ and taught school in French and English, a very avant-garde woman, the mother of the famous singer “Charlie Chamberlain.”
In 1984 I researched and read a story of historical happenings of great interest to our part of the world every evening over the local radio station(CKBC). This was a Millennium project and it was called “A Minute in History” and was heard for 365 evenings. The research was done all week and written up by hand on Saturdays and recorded on a cassette recorder and brought to the radio station on Sunday each week. In 1985 the NB Archives heard of this and requested the original writings as they considered this “Oral History” so today the original cassettes and the long hand copies are within the NB Archives. In 1998 I repeated the same process during the 200th Anniversary of the Holy Family Parish in West Bathurst,NB and folks heard about the history of their Church over the past 200 years. I remain the President of the Heritage Commission and maintain the Museum and Gallery 360,the Art Gallery within the Museum.
